Here Are the Hottest Upcoming October 2018 Games

October 2018 is almost upon us and it is bringing some of the most anticipated games of the entire year. This generation’s most talked about titles will finally see the light of the day, especially Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. There’s something in store for fans of pretty much every genre, ensuring no one will leave the month empty-handed. Without further ado, the following is a list of the hottest upcoming October 2018 games to look forward to.

October 2018 Games – Forza Horizon 4

October 2018 Games, Forza Horizon 4 Seasonal Change Events

The Forza Horizon series returns to the Xbox One and PC in the form of Forza Horizon 4. Launching on October 2, this arcade racer is set in an open world version of the United Kingdom, faithfully recreating its iconic regions with rolling hills perfect for cross-country driving.

Speaking of driving, cars operate and handle just as believably as they have in the past. Skill points offer neat tricks to pull off in the game’s raceways, which change depending on a new seasonality feature alternating between spring, summer, fall, and winter. From the thrill of speeding against others on the track and the tranquility of observing a lush landscape, there may be something in Forza Horizon 4 for every car lover out there. And, given how much we liked it, there’s probably something in there for you too.

October 2018 Games – Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

EGX 2018, October 2018 Games

Set in Ancient Greece around 431 BCE, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will seek to recapture the wonder of last year’s Origins when it launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 2 (for those that pre-order one of the game’s special editions). Judging from what we’ve seen so far, the game includes the same expansive, meticulously crafted open world structure of its last entry and simply uses the franchise’s ongoing conflict with the Templars as a backdrop for the incredible adventure at hand.

Players will get to choose to be a male or female character this time around, too. For those that love getting lost in exploring the large map and want to let their curiosity run amok when cruising through an open world game’s map, Odyssey may be right up their alley.

October 2018 Games – Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

October 2018 Games, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Switch

Most fans may have heard by now, but this year’s iteration of Call of Duty will eschew its traditional story campaign in favor of a battle royale multiplayer mode called Blackout. Indeed, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be taking a risk when it launches on October 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

While some may see this as a lame excuse to cash-in on a trend, incorporating the series’ trademark mechanics into a battle royale experience may entice many to give up their Fortnite antics in order to participate in a fresher experience. The gaming industry will have to wait and see how Black Ops 4 will change the craze, if at all. No matter what happens, the potential is there in addition to its tried-and-true traditional competitive multiplayer.

October 2018 Games – Soul Calibur 6

October 2018 Games

It’s hard to believe that Soul Calibur 6 is finally coming out on October 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, as the last iteration in the esteemed fighting game franchise released back in 2012. Going back to the series’ roots and exploring the time period between the first and second game, Soul Calibur 6 seeks to offer a refined gameplay experience that’s learned from the mistakes of more recent entries.

Critical Edge specials, a revamped Soul Charge meter, and the introduction of a Reversal Edge promise to preserve the fluidity that longtime fans have come to expect while simultaneously offering a careful attention to balance. Soul Calibur 6 is in the running to be one of the best fighters this year if it plays its card right.

October 2018 Games – Red Dead Redemption 2

October 2018 Games, Red Dead Redemption 2 first-person is confirmed.

Rockstar is releasing a teeny, tiny game of its own this month on October 26 in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2. This western sequel coming to the PS4 and Xbox One (sorry, PC!) promises to offer the same open world freedom of its predecessor while engrossing players in a story set in one of the United States’ most lawless periods in history.

With a pristine level of detail already exhibited through trailers and hands-on demos, Red Dead Redemption 2 is hellbent on immersing players in its version of the Wild West as best it can. Rockstar fans can expect the same gameplay flexibility in Grand Theft Auto 5 to be found here, as third-person and first-person modes have already been confirmed. There may not be cars, but horses are pretty cool too.

October 2018 Games – My Hero One’s Justice

October 2018 Games, my hero one's justice roster all for one

This year has been great to anime fans so far, with the release of Digimon: Cyber Sleuth — Hacker’s Memory this past January, Dragon Ball FighterZ in February, and Attack on Titan 2 in March. My Hero One’s Justice may seek to continue the trend of great games based on existing anime properties when it launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch on October 26.

Fans of My Hero Academia will find no shortage of things to get excited for in this arena-based brawler. Favorites like Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco Uraraka, and even All Might will be available to play alongside villains like Dabi, Stain, Himiko Toga, and All For One. Each fighter’s movesets have been translated directly from the show, allowing no shortage of clever, quirky maneuvers to be shown off during combat. Here’s hoping the game lives up to the quality of its anime counterpart.

With the summer heat fading away and the moon rising earlier and earlier by the day, there’s no better time to bundle up, grab some candy, and play some great games. As evidenced above, October 2018 has no shortage of enticing titles to play no matter your preference. Of course, we won’t blame you if you’re still playing games you’ve bought from September or earlier — this year has seen the release of some of the greatest hits this console generation has to offer. Whatever you decide to play, just make sure it’s a load of fun.
