Tell GR: What Was Your Favorite The Game Awards Announcement?

The Game Awards have been and gone, with Geoff Keighley’s annual awards ceremony being peppered with new announcements, reveals, and trailers. This year there were more than a handful of talking points to take away from the event, from the curtain being lifted on brand new games through to more information on some of the most hotly anticipated upcoming titles.

But what was your favorite Game Awards announcement? The GameRevolution team discussed their favorite announcements below, but now we want to know your thoughts. You can share your own opinion in the comments section below. As always, we’ll feature our favorite in tomorrow’s Tell GR.

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “It’s a toss-up between Mortal Kombat 11 and The Outer Worlds. After Fallout 76, I could really do with a palette cleanser in the style of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, which Obsidian seems to be aiming for here, albeit with a sci-fi twist. As for MK11, while I preferred the 2011 reboot over Mortal Kombat X, I can never say no to more MK.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “The Mortal Kombat 11 reveal got me the most pumped. I loved Mortal Kombat X, and I hope that this contains more of the spine-ripping action we saw in that game. I also hope the Krypt returns, because I can’t think of a more enthralling way to explore a game’s extras and unlocks.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I liked the Far Cry New Dawn trailer, as it showcased a more vibrant apocalyptic landscape. Though the end of the world is a bit of a tired topic, I do like to see different takes on it. If they keep the gameplay chaotic and co-op modes intact, I’m sure I’ll have a good time. However, I’m a little worried about the February 2019 release date, which is only 11 months after Far Cry 5… I’m just hoping that there is enough fresh content to enjoy!”

Bradley Russell, news editor: “Because we already knew CTR was pretty much coming, it’s going to be Joker in Smash Ultimate for me. Even with all of these wishlists and ‘leaks’, I don’t think anyone guessed a Persona character would be joining Smash anytime soon. Any franchise is up for grabs in Smash now, which makes it doubly exciting and, for once, there’s proof that a shock announcement can slip by without leaking out beforehand.”

Michael Leri, features editor: “Anyone who doesn’t say Mortal Kombat 11 is a damn liar. Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 are two of the best fighters of the decade and, given NetherRealm’s fantastic pedigree, I have faith that Mortal Kombat 11 will be an incredible follow-up. Custom Variations sound great but, since we don’t know much about it now, that trailer was enough to get me hyped, bad rap song and all. It was also nice to see Scorpion mutilate Raiden for a change. Sub-Zero has gotten a raw deal in these reveal trailers for the past few years.”
