Status Pro X Review

Status Pro X Wireless Earbuds Review

The Status Pro X is being touted as the evolution of the Between Pro and Between 3ANC, two wireless earphone solutions that delivered excellent sound while looking super stylish. The Pro X aims to deliver better comfort, stronger noise cancellation, and improved call quality. And yes, the triple-driver system that Status is now famous for remains in full force. After spending time putting the Pro X to the test for music-listening, movie-watching, and playing games, it’s time for my review.

Heavyweight specs

Let’s get right into the specs, as this is where Status Audio has put in the work to make the Pro X truly shine. Unsurprisingly, the highlight is the triple-driver system, an unconventional setup that Status is now known for. The new 12mm dynamic driver delivers the punchy low-end, while armature drivers from Knowles take charge of the mids and highs. It’s an interesting solution that, in theory, should create more separation and clearer detail.

In 2025, high-end earphones need to both deliver sound while rejecting unwanted external noise. Thankfully, the Pro X keeps up with the competition by offering up to 52dB of reduction, while also boasting a transparency mode for moments where you want to be more conscious of your surroundings,

All the support

Status Pro X Review

The Pro X satisfies most modern must-haves in terms of connectivity and support. Bluetooth 5.3 and codec support includes SBC, AAC, LDAC, LC3, Auracast, and LE Audio. Those latter two should give peace of mind when it comes to future-proofing your audio setup.

Battery life is a big deal when it comes to wireless earphones, with coverage of the 9-5 a common requirement. Happily the Pro X is capable of lasting those 8 hours, with the case providing up to 24 hours of additional life.

The IP55 water and dust resistance rating is also worth highlighting, as is the overhauled app that unlocks access to various EQ options and customization settings.

Oh, and for those who care a lot about call quality, Status made improvements there, too. The Pro X boasts a six microphone setup for superior voice capture, and there’s the Voiceloom AI to help out in noisier environments.

Sounds the part

Status Pro X Review

During my testing, the Pro X’s biggest strength made itself known from the get-go. The larger driver makes a clear difference when it comes to the punchiness of the bass, though it’s still very tight and controlled. Even though I’m not a massive basshead, I can appreciate well-rendered bass heard during songs where it makes sense. While bass is a prominent strength, the mids and highs remain clear. With the stock sound, I was worried that vocals would be lost, but they cut through nicely without seeming artificially boosted. Of course, an EQ is available for those looking to tweak frequencies further which works very well within the app.

Noise canceling is another big win, with Status going toe-to-toe with Apple and Sony. I’ve had a fan on in my office to deal with the ridiculous summer heat and the Pro X has blocked it out perfectly. I haven’t yet tested them on a flight, but I’m confident that they will succeed.

Comfort is great, too. Status has worked to make the Pro X smaller and fit more comfortably, and that effort has resulted in a pair of in-ears that users can put in and forget about. Getting a fit can be finicky at first but, once you’ve repeatedly inserted and removed them over the course of a week, the muscle memory kicks in and it becomes a non-issue.

Some downsides

Status Pro X Review

While they have been excellent listening partners, the Pro X are not completely flawless. With so much competition in the market, it’s important to highlight any and all weaknesses so that consumers can weigh up their options and make the right choice for them.

First, I’m not a fan of the Pro X’s charging case. While Status has reduced the size, it’s still a little chunky. With the Pro X competing with Apple’s earphones in sound quality, it’d be great to see the case competing in sleekness and portability.

Another nitpick against the Pro X is the sheer number of options available in the app. While it’s great to have so much customization available, I think it could be presented in a less overwhelming manner.

Final Verdict

Retailing for $279, the Status Pro X helps to justify its price with flagship-level sound quality and features that truly do compare to the likes of Apple, Sony, and Bose. While the Status name might not be as well-known, the company has delivered a product that enters the ring with the world’s most renowned with the potential to come out on top.
