7 Greatest Pokémon Of All Time
Posted on Saturday, October 5 @ 13:10:00 Eastern by Alex_OsbornThe Pokémon franchise is undoubtedly one of the most addictive and valuable properties that Nintendo owns. It's still the number one reason to own a Nintendo handheld, even after five generations of the same creature-collecting formula.
Generation six will be making its triumphant debut in just a few days with the release of Pokémon X & Y, but before the latest iteration of Pocket Monsters grabs a hold of you for an unhealthy amount of time, let's take a look back at some of the finest creatures ever conceived by developer Game Freak. You'll notice that the vast majority of these Pokémon come from the earliest games, but let's face it, there's nothing quite like the original crew.
Type - Rock/Dark
Species - Armor Pokémon
This hulking green armored creature is one heck of force to be reckoned with. Tyranitar, a dino-inspired Pokémon, is easily one of the most fear-inducing beasts Game Freak has ever created. With so many sharp edges, I'd be afraid to lovingly pet this creature even if he were my own. That said, Tyranitar still fits incredibly well within the cute and charming style of both the Pokémon games and anime, which is quite an accomplishment.
Type - Psychic/Flying
Species - Diving Pokémon
If you've played any of the second generation Pokémon games—those being Silver, Gold, and Crystal—or have seen the second Pokémon movie, there's no way you're not familiar with Lugia. This legendary bird is easily the best of the bunch, outranking Ho-Oh and serving as the leader that maintains balance between the three iconic winged creatures from generation one: Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno. It's known as the "Guardian of the Seas" and proudly lives up to its name.
Type - Normal
Species - Evolution Pokémon
You may be wondering: Why no Jolteon? Why no Vaporeon? Why no Flareon? Why no Umbreon? Why no Espeon? Well... the cute little creature that is Eevee was chosen as a sort of cheat instead because of the potential that lies beneath its fluffy brown exterior. With a wide range of different possible evolutions, this seemingly plain monster can evolve into any number of unique and interesting creatures. Of them, Jolteon happens to be my personal favorite.
