Crash Bandicoot and Spyro success could lead to more Activision remasters

For the last couple of years, Activision has been looking to its past with remasters such as Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy. These remasters successfully gambled on gamer’s nostalgia, and wound up selling well. Now, that success may see more remasters of classic Activision franchises in the future.

Activision president Rob Kostich made such remarks during a recent Q&A call in regards to the company’s second quarter financials. As transcribed by JUMPBUTTONCB on Twitter, Kostich stated that sales of both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro remasters have remained strong since they launched. Following this, he confirmed that fans should “stay tuned for future announcements based on remasters of other franchises.”

As for what these franchise are, Kostich did not mention any specific ones. That said, while Activision is primarily known for its annual Call of Duty games these days, the company does has a sizable library of classic gaming IPs. It’s one of the oldest third-party publishers after all, with a history of games stretching back to the late 1970s.

In addition to this, Activision may doing more than just remastering old games. Kostich indicated that the company could possibly be looking into making “totally new content within these IPs.” Fans of these franchises may find this latter bit more exciting that just remasters. After all, there’s only so much old content that can be remastered, and new content could mean having more games within these franchises in the long run.

With Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, or any other franchises Activision is looking to to bring back, these remasters may only be the first step. The success of the former two seems to have alerted the company to the potential these franchises hold. Hopefully this means they get properly revived, not just with more remasters, but with actual new games featuring new ideas that push the franchises forward.
