90% of PSN Users Have Returned Says Sony

Posted on Tuesday, June 28 @ 08:50:11 Eastern by

Amidst shareholder's cries for Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer's resignation came some news regarding the aftermath of the PSN security breach fiasco.

Stringer defended himself, pointing out that Sony's stocks suffered more due to the Japan earthquake than the PSN hacking. He then said that trust in Sony as a brand is being restored quickly and as much as 90% of PSN users affected by the breach have returned.

Over 70 million PSN accounts were affected, but that number includes secondary accounts created only to access other region's content. I know I have a Japanese and a UK PSN account that I haven't re-activated since the hacking took place, so I'm contributing to that 10% remaining. Not because I don't trust Sony, but because I forgot the passwords and used fake information to create them.

Have you gone back to the PSN since it returned? If not, why haven't you? And has your trust in Sony been restored?

I went back after the store went live again. Most of my gameplay has been on the Xbox lately (( and my Wii of course is gathering dust....although TvC looks really good right now lol )). My PS3 is mainly single player experiences and the occasional SF4 game here and there. The online connection always left me wanting more for some reason...it just never seems strong enough for good multiplayer games for me.

Huh. I've only played CoD4 on Xbox LIVE, but when I do, I have the same connectivity on average as I do on PSN. Not a lot to judge on, so I'll just say I'm happy with PSN, and since my PS3 is on a wired connection and my router is gaming grade, there's nothing for me to complain about.

Go wireless with your PS3....The wireless that was built into the system is no joke faster than the wired connection. Inbound and outbound speeds are higher with the stock wireless card.

Having recently played Mortal Kombat online with Anthony I feel secure in saying that the PSN sucks for multiplayer gaming. It really, really sucks. That doesn't change the fact that I immediately got back online once the PSN resumed service

Yeah we had some major issues that night. That said, most of my Mortal Kombat online experiences have been pretty good.

Overall I've had decent experiences overall. Xbox LIVE is definitely better and more solid. I guess it's a you get what you pay for type of thing.

Anything is better than Nintendo's essentially non-existent online.

I've never experienced it for myself, but my few friends that do have PS3's all share in your opinion: the PSN sucks. I've heard horror stories about connection issues, un-Godly lag, and matchmaking nightmares (though it's more likely that the developer is the one to shake your fist in anger at for that one).

Most of the complaints that I heard about were all the way back from the days of CoD 4 though, so it may have improved substantially in that time. The only reason I even want a PS3 is for an array of it's exclusives (God of War, Uncharted, and I hear No More Heroes is slated to make an appearance).

I was a PS3 guy before the hack and the PSN was absolutely fine. There was no ungodly lag (I was often top or near top of the leader board on MW2 and I was using mobile broadband) I used the hack to convince my girlfriend let me get myself a 360 (they make the decisions and whoever denies it is LYING!!) and since I got the Xbox I have only used the ps3 for No more heroes paradise. The Xbox interface is so intuitive and a real pleasure to use and I find the weighteir controller so much nicer to hold. Despite PS3 winning the spec battle I find myself asking why I was in Sony's corner in the first place.

I have a fake Japanese PSN account but isn't psn still down in Japan? I know they're still going through a pretty rough patch. I'd check on my system but I'm still downloading the Uncharted 3 beta

Eh, I rarely get lag on PSN unless I'm playing with people from Sweden or Guam. Live has better community features but I've been happy with PSN's performance. Netcode and whatnot is implemented by the developers anyway, if a game is buggy/laggy online it's probably their fault, and most developers patch their games to make them run better. Warhawk had a buggy release full of dropped games and they patched it to be rock-solid.

Really though they're both great systems with good libraries of games and healthy online communities and people talking about one or the other sucking pisses me off. Complaining about an online service is a bullshit first-world problem.
