Pixels Crashes at Box Office, Spins Around, Dies

So did anyone really expect Pixels to be good in the first place? I mean, it's essentially constructed as a children's film that's bafflingly aimed at people old enough to remember '80s arcade games. Not saying that this couldn't work, but Futurama already did this just fine, thank you.

Over the weekend, Pixels earned only $23 million which isn't great given that the film cost Sony $88 million after rebates ($110 million in total), according to The Hollywood Reporter. It also doesn't spell for the movie's ensemble cast including Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage, and Kevin James.

The only good news is that is also earned about $25 million internationally, placing first in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Argentina, and Russia. So the film will likely be profitable, despite being almost universally panned by critics.

On Rotten Tomatoes, only 19 out of 104 critics gave it a fresh rating and it only has a 58% rating from the audience. On Metacritic, the film is averaging an abysmal 27% with only 2 positive reviews out of 34.
