The Gorgeous Quantum Break May Run At 1080p On Xbox One

Microsoft's Gamescom 2015 demonstration of Remedy Entertainment's upcoming Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break was one that left a strong impression. Showcasing some of the most impressive visuals seen from a game pre-release, some believed that the only way it could achieve its advanced shader and lighting quality is with a lower 720p resolution. Surprisingly, that doesn't appear so.

A presentation by Remedy Entertainment indicates that Quantum Break will run at 1080p resolution at launch. This will allow the game to run without upscaling, natively producing an image for 1920 x 1080 displays.

Similar to Alan Wake, Quantum Break is expected to be a strong showcase for its platform. After being granted additional development time, it is likely that Remedy Entertainment has been able to tap into the latest SDKs for the Xbox One which include the perks of DirectX 12.

If true, it'd be an important achievement for Microsoft, a company which has been combating discussion about the Xbox One hardware being underpowered since its launch in 2013. While games such as Ryse: Son of Rome and Forza Horizon 2 have shown that the console is no slouch, the console has needed a true visual showpiece. Quantum Break looks to be that game when it launches April 5th, 2016.
