Ubisoft Impressed by Virtual Reality, Will Integrate Support in Future AAA Titles

During today's investor call, Ubisoft shared that it sees strong momentum with virtual reality. Sales of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift currently total at above 100,000 units with supply constrain, earning the interest of the publisher in the process.

Ubisoft plans to adapt its AnvilNext engine to support virtual reality. With this, it will be able to deliver AAA experiences including the potential likes of Assassin's Creed to headsets such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. This will arrive in addition to its recently announced virtual reality exclusive title, Werewolves Within, which was recently announced as one of virtual reality's first social games.

Virtual reality is quickly winning over consumers resulting in strong developer support despite being a first-generation technology. Currently, over 200 games are available on Steam for the HTC Vive with new titles being added each day. Demand has increased following positive feedback, driving up second-hand sales on sites like eBay where the Oculus Rift CV1 currently goes for nearly double its MSRP.
