Sendy Audio Apollo PRO Headphones Review

The Sendy Audio Apollo PRO not only aims to be a fantastic-sounding planar magnetic headphone, but also one that users can wear comfortably for hours on end. I’ve often said the headphones I regularly come back to are those that sit comfortably on my head. Planar magnetic and comfort don’t always go so well together. Has the Apollo PRO delivered quality sound and comfortable wear? Here is my review.

Premium, inside and out

Externally, the Apollo PRO has the distinctive style I have come to expect from Sendy Audio. Zebrawood earcups are paired with a sunburst-pattern metal grille, while CNC-machined aluminium helps the structure feel sturdy and premium. That might sound like a lot of materials amounting to a lot of weight, but this headphone comes in at 354 grams and is remarkably well-balanced.

Internally, the star of the show has to be the new 78 mm planar magnetic driver, which is paired with a nano-scale composite diaphragm. Aluminium circuitry is applied directly to the diaphragm, with the goal of improving clarity and control.

A detachable 4.4 mm balanced cable is included, together with 3.5 mm and 6.35 mm adapters. The cable stands out with its coloring and how it is twisted into shape. An interestingly-shaped case is provided, but it is high quality and appreciated.

But is it comfortable?

Comfort is one of the Apollo PRO’s biggest wins. The low weight, soft pads and gentle clamping force make it easy to wear for several hours. It’s rare for me to not have some issue with out-of-the-box comfort, especially with a planar, so I was pleasantly surprised here.

When it comes to the listening experience, the Apollo PRO delivers controlled and detailed bass that is never overpowering, allowing the vocals to shine through cleanly yet naturally, with no excessive treble attempting to mask weakness. It’s an excellent sound throughout the range. 

The open-back design does mean sound leakage can be a concern. Even at lower volumes, listening in a quiet room will alert those around you. I would be wary if you’re planning to wear these in a public place. In private, they’re great, provided you won’t be annoying any family members. 

Go, go open-back

If you can get away with an open-back headphone, then I’d highly encourage using them over closed-back. They just sound so much better and benefit from other advantages, like soundstage, which is decently wide on the Apollo PRO.

Soundstage is one of the bigger factors I consider when recommending gaming headsets. Happily the Apollo PRO delivers clear directionality when it comes to hearing enemy gunfire or footsteps, and the headphone just generally sounds excellent across all genres. I used the Apollo PRO while playing through Saros, a game that punishes even the slightest mistake, and I felt very “locked in” thanks to these headphones.
