Battlefield 1’s Dynamic Resolution Bug Makes It Look Like a PS1 Game

Dynamic resolution scaling has become one of the most popular methods for dealing with frame rate loss in AAA console games. We've seen Killzone employ it, in addition to Halo. Most recently, Battlefield 1 was equipped with it on PS4 and Xbox One. Although it has been effective, it isn't perfect.

Players are reporting that the PS4 version of Battlefield 1 has a dynamic resolution scaling bug. Instead of shifting the game resolution to 1600 x 900, it'll drop to 190 x 60. As you might imagine, this results in an incredible unattractive image, as seen below.

This was best documented by VG Tech in a new frame rate test video, which caught several instances of the bug.

The good news is that when this occurs the game becomes so easy to run that its performance hits an all-time high. The bad news is that EA hasn't officially acknowledged the bug, so a fix is questionable.
