Apex Legends Next-Gen Update Launches Today With Big Visual Changes

The Apex Legends update for PS5 and Xbox Series X has launched today, bringing a variety of graphical improvements to the battle royale game. Respawn Entertainment has released the new version of the game online, with current users able to grab an update from their console or download it from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.

What are the visual changes in the next-gen update of Apex Legends?

Apex Legends caustic treatment

EA and Respawn Entertainment have added a variety of graphical enhancements to Apex Legends as part of the next-gen upgrade. Perhaps the most important changes are that the battle royale now supports 4K resolution and a boosted frame rate of 60 FPS. The update also introduces longer draw distances, HDR options, and improved shadow maps. That should mean users notice a big visual overhaul when playing the updated version of the game.

While there aren’t any other big differences right now, the developer has confirmed it is working on a number of changes for the near future. Chief among them is the ability to up the frame rate to 120 FPS. The PS5 version of the game will also receive additional features to make use of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. A variety of other visual and audio improvements are being worked on as well.

Meanwhile, today marks the start of the Warriors Collection Event in Apex Legends. In a blog post, EA revealed that the limited-time mode Control is returning for two weeks. This game mode pits teams of nine players against each other as they aim to keep possession of an area of the map. The Caustic Treatment area has also been converted so that it will work in Control, providing extra cover and zip lines. Respawn Entertainment has also added an extra arena map known as Drop-Off along with a series of new cosmetic items.

In other news, a potential name for the Breath of the Wild sequel has been leaked online, while devs confirmed Dying Light 2 will not get a battle royale mode.
