PETA Outraged By Warhammer 40,000, Issues Public Letter

The Warhammer 40,000 universe has been the recipient of some negative backlash over the years, most notably for being violent. Though, that violence has never been associated with animal abuse. Until now.

PETA has published a blog post on its website requesting that Warhammer 40,000 tabletop publisher Games Workshop remove all fur from its game. The animal rights organization argues that it "features an abundance of characters who wear what appear to be animal pelts".

Although short, the letter gives the impression that the capes worn by Warhammer characters is made of fur, stating, "nothing on the bloody battlefields of Warhammer’s conflict-ravaged universe could match the terrible reality that foxes, minks, rabbits, and other living beings experience at the hands of the fur trade."

However, all official Warhammer 40,000 tabletop miniatures are made using a mixture of metal and synthetic materials, including their fur-like belts and adornments. An argument could be made that Games Workshop's products use environmentally unfriendly plastics, which has been brought up in the past.

From the sound of things, PETA might prefer if Warhammer 40,000 characters adorned themselves with the carcasses of their enemies. That would be far more acceptable, wouldn't it?
