PlayStation 3 Gets v4.00 Update, Vita Compatibility

Sony has release firmware v4.00 onto the PlayStation 3, and with it come a host of features in preparation for the imminent launch of the PlayStation Vita.

Like the PSP, the PlayStation Vita can remotely play PS3 titles. An option to register and sync a PlayStation Vita with the PS3 has been added, as well as options for Vita media, save, and game data, and a way to manage Vita applications downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

The v4.00 update isn't all about Vita, however. It also adds a PlayStation Plus icon to the XMB, and PS+ subscribers can now toggle which automatic update features they want on and off.

New privacy settings for PSN friends list, and a new epilepsy warning on the PlayStation 3 start-up have been added (don't panic when you see a warning at your PS3's start up).

It may not be the exciting v4.00 update everyone had dreamed of, but at least the PlayStation 3 is primed for the PlayStation Vita when it launches in Japan on December 17th (everywhere else in February).

If the update causes your PS3 to YLOD, use this YLOD fix guide from Gilsky.
