Keiji Inafune Has Been Working On Soul Sacrifice, A Vita Exclusive

When Keiji Inafune—Megaman designer and producer of Dead Rising—announced on his blog that he was leaving Capcom, there was no telling what would happen, or if the gaming industry had just been dealt a vicious blow. However, he has most definitely not disappeared and instead has been working on something with an abundance of potential.

The PlayStation Vita game that was announced yesterday, Soul Sacrifice, is what Keiji Inafune has been working on since he parted from Capcom. Unlike his previous work, Soul Sacrifice is an action role-playing game, and despite its Dark Souls appearance, it most definitely doesn't belong to the Souls series.

The name Soul Sacrifice derives from the game's core gameplay mechanic: sacrifice. The main character is a dark sorcerer who is able to sacrifice nearly anything in the game world to acquire magical resources, which are then used to cast powerful magic. By nearly anything we aren't kidding, either. The player can sacrifice parts of the sorcerer's body—an eye, leg, and dear god I hope not little Johnny—to obtain a hefty amount of resources. As a result the player might find himself running around flinging fireballs at giant baby creatures with a severely deformed body. Not for the feint of heart to say the least.

As you should expect from an Inafune game, Soul Sacrifice looks like it will have a lot of personality with bizarre enemies and a haunting musical score.  With an array of magic, four person multi-player, gorgeous visuals, and Vita exclusivity, this could be just the game that Sony needs to get its new handheld the swagger it deserves.

We have a trailer posted which reveals some tidbits of gameplay along with a reveal date of May 10th—that's tomorrow folks.
