Gears First-Person Shooter Very Much A Possibility

While third-person shooting has been the core mechanic that defines Epic Games' Gears of War franchise, there's a possibility that the series may tip-toe into the FPS genre in the future. According to executive producer Rod Fergusson, they haven't ruled anything out.

“I’m a big believer in never say never,” Fergusson said to OXM when questioned about the possibilitiy. “It’s all about what’s interesting in the industry at the time and where fans want us to take it. We don’t want to say never but it’s not on the top of my mind either. We look at what makes sense and move in that direction.”

It's also worth noting that the upcoming prequel, Gears of War: Judgment is being done by the guys at People Can Fly, a team that is adept at making quality first-person shooters thanks to their work on Bulletstorm. With regard to Judgment, Fergusson had a few bits of new info to share, saying that since "People Can Fly is very much about things in level with a high replayability," their "campaign is a different campaign, but at its heart it’s Kilo squad, and Lancers and taking cover – it’s a Gears game.”

For all things Gears and video games in general, keep it locked to GameRevolution.
