Nintendo Power To Reach Its Very Last Issue

Nintendo Power is an indelible part of gaming nostalgia, so it is with a deep sigh that the 24-year publication will soon reach its final issue.

Future Publishing will not be continuing the magazine, which began in 1988 as a part of the Nintendo Fun Club newsletter, as Ars Technica reports that Nintendo was "uninterested in renewing that contract or in taking part in a number of digital initiatives… and doesn't seem interested in taking over direct control of the magazine again".

It's still uncertain how many issues remain and how yearly subscribers will receive compensation for any issues that should have come after the final one. This month's August issue marks the magazine's 281st issue and it currently has a monthly readership of 475,000.

The majority of the remaining editors will land at other Future brands like GamesRadar.
