No White Or Silver 3DS XL Color Options In North America Due To Lack Of Popularity

When the 3DS XL was first announced and the color options were revealed, it was clear that North America got the short end of the stick. With only two color options, handheld gamers in the States can currently only choose between red and blue, while other territories get sleek white and silver options as well.

According to NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime, the reason behind this decision has everything to do with the demand for these colors based on past hardware sales. "We have launched silver- and white-colored GBAs, DSes, DSis, and in our [North American] market they don't sell very well," he explained to IGN. "So instead of approaching this lighter-colored product as a mass [product], we're going to look at the opportunity on a much more limited basis. You might see a limited-time offer with a white or silver 3DS XL, or we might colorize it slightly differently."

"But in terms of an ongoing SKU, the consumer has responded in our marketplace and said that, for a handheld gaming device from Nintendo, that kind of white or silver doesn't sell nearly as well as blue or red or even pink," he added. So it looks like those of you holding out in the hopes that other color options will be made available soon should just suck it up and settle for a red or blue one now.

Why do all the twelve year-olds with bad taste have to ruin it for those of us who prefer a more conservative color? This once again proves that Nintendo is no longer a company that caters toward my tastes. Sad day.
