Top Overwatch Players Fall for One of the Most Embarrassing Tricks in the Book

We’ve all had our embarrassing moments when playing Overwatch. Whether that be ulting only to have your teammate kill everyone before you can even get one kill, to having your ult swallowed up by the enemy D.VA’s defense matrix, we’ve all been there. Thankfully, even the top Overwatch players have their own mortifying troubles when it comes to playing Blizzard’s team FPS. That’s right, the top Overwatch players fall foul to the ‘where’s the payload’ trick too.

Houston Outlaws tank player, Austin ‘Muma’ Wilmot was left feeling confused as he watched the enemy team that was up made up of top-tier players, including LA Gladiator’s tank, Chan-hyung “Fissure” Baek, fall repeatedly against the overwhelming defense of his team. It made no sense, after all, to keep trickling in with no strategy that left them vulnerable. Top players were better than this. So, what was their strategy?

It was only a few moments later that realization hit Muma. The payload. It was nowhere to be seen. While the rest of Muma’s team, including fellow Houston Outlaw player Alexandre ‘Spree’ Vanhomwegen, called out the opposing team for feeding (aka, dying on purpose), the enemy didn’t seem to mind at all. In fact, as you can see below, their deaths were just part of the plan.

While Muma’s team had been effortlessly killing Fissure’s, another member of Fissure’s team who was playing the omnic monk, Zenyatta, had crept past the enemy lines with nobody being any wiser about it. The Zenyatta pushed the payload to the second checkpoint, and Fissure, finally noticing what was happening, cackled and whooped.

By the time Muma and the rest of the team had noticed what was happening, it was far too late for them to win that second point back. It’s a move that has happened to all Overwatch players at least once, but there’s something extra special in knowing that even the top Overwatch players fall for it too.
