Far Cry 3 Will Not Have Dedicated Servers

An Ubisoft representative announced in the company's forums that Far Cry 3 will not support dedicated servers for the online multiplayer. The community manager has since said that this decision was made in the best interest of all gamers and was only made after careful consideration.

"The online experience does not support dedicated servers," Ubisoft said. "Of course we are not trying to kill the PC community. We have simply decided on a different way of handling multiplayer. We weighed the different options against each other to see what worked best, and what we came up with worked very well even without [dedicated servers]."

Ubisoft also insisted that this decision was not made due to any concerns over PC piracy. I'm sure we all believe that statement, given Ubisoft's stances on PC piracy and DRM for the PC in the past.
