Zynga Japan Will Close In January

Of all the studio closings to hear of, one from Zynga surprises me the least. Zynga is starting with its international offices; Zynga Japan will close by the end of January. According to TechCrunch, the CEO of Zynga Japan announced this news on his Facebook page. Later, Zynga updated their Japanese website with much of the same news.

Zynga Japan came from Zynga's acquisition of Unoh Games in 2010. Zynga's goal was to establish their own presence in a market where social and mobile games were already quite popular. Unfortunately, Zynga could not compete with other prominent developers in the region, and the company opted to close its Japan office as part of its effort to reduce the company by 5 percent.
