Why Quantic Dream Hasn’t Made Sequels

Heavy Rain was undoubtedly one of Sony's large successes when it released back in 2010, selling over 2 million copies and grossing over $100 million for the publisher. It seemed that a sequel of some sort would come, as that is just the nature of the gaming beast. However, it never happened, and now Quantic Dream is developing on another interactive drama, Beyond: Two Souls.

At the Tribeca Film Festival over this past weekend, co-CEO of Quantic Dream, Guillaume de Fondaumiere, told GameSpot why they haven't done any sequels thus far.

"We are not fundamentally against sequels," de Fondaumiere said. "We haven't done it before because the stories we wanted to tell were basically finished. Ethan Mars loses another son? You know, it just doesn't make sense."

However, he did say that the developer has made and is making sequels, if you think of their titles as "Quantic Dream and David Cage."

"You see this progression and [fans] are following us. And so the brand is really Quantic and David Cage and that's what we really push forward," he explained. "Hopefully it works."

It seems to have worked thus far, but we'll see if it continues to do so when Beyond: Two Souls releases on October 8th. For what it's worth, it has worked for me.
