Noire gets Noir with L.A. Noire’s Noir Filter

You know… L.A. Noire is a fine piece of modern… well, noir. I'd say it's even more befitting of the genre than Max Payne, Rockstar's other Noir game. If only there were a way to really bring that noir feeling to the fore front. Not to sound like a cheap TV salesman, but now there is!

Yes, with L.A. Noire's retail release, Team Bondi and Rockstar have had to finally come clean about the black and white visual filter they've left in the game. Head to the pause menu and take a look at the visual options to set 1947 L.A. to the color scheme it was way back when… Did you know that the world didn't have color until the color television? It's true! Haven't you ever seen Pleasantville?

We always knew we would create a proper noir mode with the black and white setting for L.A. Noire considering how much inspiration for the game came from classic noir films like The Naked City and The Asphalt Jungle. Playing in black and white adds a somewhat nostalgic, cinematic feel to the game, and we'd definitely recommend that players experiment with this setting and see what they prefer best.

That's Art Director Rob Nelson. While we switch back and forth between black and white and color, why not let us know how you're enjoying L.A. Noire so far and if you prefer Black and White or Technicolor?
