Internal Memo At Microsoft Reportedly Kills Always-On Xbox Rumor

The next Xbox has been plagued by this pesky rumor that I'm sure you're all familiar with. Whether or not Microsoft's next-gen gaming box will require a constant internet connection has become a major topic of discussion, and one that can finally come to an end… sort of.

According to Ars Technica, the following memo was allegedly sent to “all full-time employees working on the next Xbox.”

Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet. There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.

So it looks like not only will offline play be supported, but the device will come equipped with a Blu-ray drive and feature some sort of TV integration just like we all suspected.

For the official word on what's happening with Microsoft's new console, be sure to check back here on May 21st for all the juicy details from the Xbox Reveal.
