EA Scrapping Online Passes

Electronic Arts has confirmed that the company will be "discontinuing" its Online Pass system going forward. For some reason I have the feeling that not too many gamers out there will take issue with this decision. You see? EA isn't completely evil!

John Reseburg, the senior director of corporate communications at EA, told GamesBeat that “none of our new EA titles will include that feature.”

He went on to add that while it “initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format. We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”

Will this decision encourage other publishers like Sony and Ubisoft to follow suit and do away with their similar anti-used game measures? One can only hope.
