Next Castlevania Title Won’t Be Developed By MercurySteam

MercurySteam will no longer be working on the Castlevania franchise, series producer David Cox revealed during a roundtable interview at Comic-Con.

Cox discussed Konami's plans to improve the franchise going forward, and it looks like new blood is what the company thinks the series needs.

We have to really plan differently and do things differently. And we've made mistakes on this one, as well, which we're going to hopefully improve for the next one. I think it's a learning process and I think game developers are learning every day how to do things better.

I think it's time for somebody else; somebody younger, a younger producer to come in and take up the mantle and do what they think would be right for Castlevania and for us to move on to something else.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is set to launch on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year. If you haven't already done so, read our preview to find out how we think the game is coming along.
