How to spectate in Fortnite Chapter 2

Aside from the bigger, more obvious changes that have taken place in Fortnite Chapter 2, there is one brilliant addition that’s a little more hidden away: Fortnite spectating. That’s right, you can now spectate your friend’s matches in Fortnite. How do you spectate in Fortnite, though? That’s what we’re here to tell you. Read on to find out how you can watch your friends playing Fortnite while you wait.

How to spectate in Fortnite

As stated above, you can now spectate your friend’s matches in Fortnite following the introduction of Chapter 2. This much-requested feature is finally in the game, but it is a little tricky to figure out how to spectate in Fortnite. Thankfully, we’re here to tell you how you can watch your friend’s matches while you’re waiting to play Fortnite together. It’s quite simple, too, which is a bonus for sure.

ALSO: EA Steam releases may be imminent according to these clues

To spectate a match that your friend is playing in, you will need to follow a few steps. Luckily, we’ve listed the steps down below for you in an easy-to-read list of bullet points so you know exactly what to do. Follow the steps below to discover how to spectate in Fortnite Chapter 2:

  • Turn Fortnite on (obvious, we know)
  • Enter into a lobby with a friend, any friend will do
  • Click on your friend’s name and choose the spectate options

That’s all there is to it. Of course, you can only spectate a friend’s game in Fortnite if you are both in the same lobby and they are already playing a game. For whatever reason, too, you can only watch if your friend has been playing for at least 30 seconds after they have dropped. No Battle Bus watching for you, it seems.

It does get trickier for more than two people, however. It appears as though everyone in the lobby needs to be either in a game already or spectating in order for you to spectate. This means that if your group of four is waiting for one friend to finish their current match, you will all need to spectate.
