Watch: Nioh 2 story trailer sets the stage for epic adventure

It’s time to get hype for slaying yokai: the Nioh 2 story trailer is here, giving us our first real look at the adventure into Japanese mythology that’s coming to the PS4 in less than two months.

Centuries ago, yokai (literally “ghost”) terrorized Japan, and only skilled warriors well-versed in martial combat and magic could defeat them. Blessed with the abilities of yokai and warrior alike, you’ll travel through Sengoku-era Japan (that’s the mid-1500s, for those of you who aren’t history nerds) fighting enemies with a retooled combat system that preserves much of the challenge of the first Nioh.

The trailer opens with some traditional Japanese singing in front of a temple, interspersed with various other scenes from the game. A cavalcade of colorful characters and creepy ghosts alike make their appearance, hinting at a truly epic story based on Japanese lore. Regrettably, we don’t get to see much in the way of combat in this trailer outside of a cutscene context.

You can watch the Nioh 2 story trailer for yourself below. Nioh 2 launches on PlayStation 4 on March 13, 2020.
