Always keep in mind is that you should aim for the bottom platform within a given gap as you jump.
Landing on the lower platform lets you skate forward unharmed, but bumping your head because you were too ambitious with a jump spells the end of your run.
Very often you'll have to make a low jump just after you complete a high jump, so be ready for that trap and tap the screen more softly if you need to in order to avoid bumping your noggin.
