It pays to think ahead. What parts do you have at your disposal? Where are the star boxes located? Are you interested in collecting them the first time around, or are you better off clearing a stage and moving on?
If a stage opens with parts already in place, it's safe to assume they'll come into play somehow. However, while all parts need to work together in order to grab all the stars in a stage, not all of them are necessary to simply clear the stage.
