How to remove weapon attachments in Back 4 Blood

Back 4 Blood features an on-the-fly weapon upgrade system where players collect attachments and apply them to their firearms. Scopes, barrels, magazines, and stocks are all compatible with both primary and secondary guns. The problem is, they aren’t all complimentary. Players can attach a sniper scope to a shotgun, for example, then immediately come to regret the decision. So, here’s the lowdown on how to remove weapon attachments in Back 4 Blood (B4B).

Back 4 Blood: How to swap weapon attachments

To remove a weapon attachment in Back 4 Blood, players must find and equip a replacement scope, barrel, magazine, or stock. The only way to remove a scope from a firearm in B4B is to locate and equip another gun scope, for instance.

Back 4 Blood allows players to drop guns (which retain all of their connected attachments) from the inventory screen. Unfortunately, players are unable to remove individual attachments from a weapon. In theory, this is fine — in reality, it can be quite damaging to the experience. It’s easy to collect a scope “upgrade” that actually makes a weapon almost useless. Applying a sniper scope to a shotgun or an LMG are extreme examples, though it isn’t uncommon as players naturally vacuum up high-tier attachments.

Additionally, swapping out weapons to fit the situation at hand can provide a tactical advantage. Since attachments aren’t transferrable between guns, many B4B payers never trade out a firearm with full attachment slots for a basic alternative. In some cases, this can be to the detriment of the team and counteract the strong cooperative focus of Back 4 Blood.

Hopefully, developer Turtle Rock Studios will add a Back 4 Blood attachment removal mechanic via a future game update. Until then, the dev team is likely placing its focus on Twitch Drop issues and players being unable to move.
