Super Smash Bros. Wii U, 3DS Release Windows Announced [Update: Info Blowout]

Nintendo has just announced the release windows for both versions of its upcoming multiplayer brawler. Super Smash Bros. 3DS will launch this summer while the Wii U version will be available this winter.

In addition, Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that the characters in the 3DS version will move at a smooth 60 frames-per-second and will support the device's stereoscopic 3D. Both versions of the game will contain the same roster of fighters, but many of the stages will differ depending on the system.

As far as online multiplayer is concerned, both versions of the game will allow you to connect with friends and play over the internet. If you choose to not play with friends, you can pick from two different modes: "For Fun" and "For Glory." In the "For Fun" mode, a random stage will be selected (aside from Final Destination) and all items will be turned on. However, in the "For Glory" mode, the only stage available will be Final Destination and all items will be turned off.

To keep things from growing visually stale for all you hardcore players, the Final Destination stage will feature a wide array of different skins, all while providing the same simple, flat surface to fight on.

The Big N also announced a few new characters that will be joining the fray. To no one's surprise, Yoshi has been confirmed, as well as both Sheik and Zero Suit Samus. In Brawl, these latter two were mere costume changes for Zelda and Samus, but that is no longer the case. On top of that, two Pokémon were announced: Charizard and Greninja, each with their own Mega Evolutions.

The 3DS version will feature an exclusive mode called "Smash Run." This four-player mode begins in a dungeon-like setting where players search for powerups within a 5 minute time limit. When the time is up, the four will be pitted against each other in a free-for-all that takes all of the earned powerups into account. Sounds like an interesting twist, no?

Be sure to let us know what you make of all these details in the comments below. Will you be getting the 3DS version? The Wii U version? Both?
