Nintendo Suffers $97 Million Loss, Despite Success of Mario Kart 8

Nintendo has released its financials for the quarter ending June 30th and they aren't too pretty. Sadly, the company is dealing with a loss on the order of $97.2 million.

During the quarter, a total of 510,00 Wii Us were shipped, bringing the console's lifetime shipment numbers to 6.68 million. The Big N is aiming for 3.6 million units for the fiscal year, so we'll be looking at a 9.77 million figure by March of next year if Nintendo hits its goal.

In addition, Mario Kart 8 sales have proven to be quite impressive, with a whopping 2.82 million shipments by the end of June.

The company expects to see a much more profitable rest of the year thanks to upcoming high-profile releases, including Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS, Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and Hyrule Warriors.
