Monster Hunter World: a player climbing onto the head of a giant monster.

Monster Hunter: World Hits Sales Milestone as Series Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Recently, the Monster Hunter franchise officially turned 20 years old. To coincide with this, recent figures show that the 2018 installment MH: World has now reached a huge sales milestone.

A monster hit

That’s according to a new report from Capcom. The company’s website says that Monster Hunter: World has now sold over 25 million copies on a global scale. This includes shipments of the Iceborne Master Edition.

Within a month of release, World went on to become “Capcom’s best-selling title of all time.” On top of this, as of December 2023, the series on the whole has managed to shift over 97 million units spread across multiple games.

With the first entry releasing on March 11, 2004, the Monster Hunter series has pretty much been a staple IP for the studio, garnering huge success over the years.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary, a special sale has been put on over on Eighty Sixed, allowing you to purchase discounted Monster Hunter: World merchandise, such as t-shirts, poster sets, and keychains.

The last installment in the series was the mobile game Monster Hunter Now, which was released in 2023 for iOS and Android.

While Capcom’s Resident Evil is still the developer and publisher’s most successful series – with a total of 154 million copies sold globally – Monster Hunter is arguably not far behind it. Fans can look forward to the next game, Monster Hunter Wild, which is due to release in 2025, and is set to be launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
