Roblox Reportedly Changing Players’ Usernames for This Reason

Roblox shocked many players this week by quietly changing some of the usernames. The company replaced names that contain the number 69. This left the affected accounts with temporary placeholder names, sparking a huge reaction on social media platforms. Around 8-9 November, fans started noticing a change in their usernames. They woke up to emails saying that the system had altered their account. In messages that affected users share, Roblox told them that their “behavior broke the rules.” A moderator note said, “Your username or display name was found to be inappropriate and has been changed to a placeholder.”

Roblox players receiving warning notices to change usernames

The email then suggested that the company would allow account holders to change their username free of cost. However, the company is lifting the fees just for this one time. They would need to pay to change their name again after that.

A wide number of Roblox users claimed that they have used their names for years now. The system never warned them before the mass reset. Soon, as everyone started sharing their stories online, the players found a pattern.

Roblox had flagged every name that included the digits 69. The company is trying to remove any username that could be read as an adult joke. Even when the users say that the number was harmless in their account’s name.

This sweep by Roblox on various usernames set off a wave of complaints on Reddit and other forums. They were angry that Roblox made such a wide change without giving people a chance to update their names. A user posted on X, expressing their frustration, “I almost got banned from Roblox for having 69 in my name, but they refuse to ban predators.”

Another noted, “Within the past couple days, Roblox decided to go out of their way and reset almost EVERY SINGLE ACCOUNT containing 69 in the username, regardless of the context.”

“If I could get an estimate, tens of millions of accounts are affected, making this the biggest reset wave in history,” the post further read.
