SIVGA PENG Headphone Review

SIVGA PENG Headphone Review

The SIVGA PENG headphone certainly looks the part with its attractive wooden ear cups and impressive machining, which give it an air of high-end audiophile equipment, but is it capable of delivering the sound quality to match? After using the PENG as my main headphone for three weeks, across games, movies, and of course music, it’s time for my review.

Flawless first impressions

It’s during the unboxing experience where the PENG, similar to other SIVGA headphones, delivers an outstanding first impression. Where others skimp on this detail, SIVGA has stepped in to elevate.

But what about the sound? Well, the PENG is equipped with a 50 mm dynamic driver, which is a clear step up from the 40 mm drivers that I’ve been using of late with the many gaming headset reviews I’ve done. SIVGA has gone the extra mile here with a sapphire composite diaphragm and a copper ring stabilization system, which certainly sound very impressive.

PENG sound

The resulting sound is pretty clinical, which is a tad surprising for a closed-back. Across various genres of music, some warmer elements can be heard, but still I think users will agree that the PENG is more neutral than expected. It’s more easygoing than characterless, though, in an inoffensive way.

How the PENG handles the bass is a highlight for me. Many closed-back headphones struggle to handle bass-heavy tracks cleanly. The PENG is tight and tidy, which is a big win.

Potential hiccups

In terms of downsides, the SIVGA PENG’s more neutral sound may be a turn-off for some. The soundstage isn’t as wide as some other closed-backs, either.

The 340 ohms demand of the PENG is also worthy of mention. It’s not necessarily a downside, but potential buyers will want to note the required power.

Final Verdict

At $449, the SIVGA PENG sits in a premium bracket where expectations are high, and it generally meets them. Its build quality and balanced sound make it appealing for listeners who value a clean, controlled presentation. Some may want a broader soundstage or a more colored tuning, and proper amplification is important. Overall, it offers a solid experience for the right audience.
