For instance, on GDPval, an eval that tests specified knowledge work tasks across 44 different professions, GPT-5.2 thinking outperforms or ties top industry professionals on 70.9% of comparisons — greater than GPT-5.1’s 38.8% — on GDPVal knowledge work tasks like spreadsheet and presentation creation. Furthermore, GPT-5.2 thinking produces output for GDPval functions at a speed more than 11 times that of expert professionals and at a cost less than 1% of that of expert professionals.
GPT-5.2 comes in three types: Instant, Thinking, and Pro. Each type, distinct in size and potential ability, has been improved upon from GPT-5.1. For example, GPT-5.2 Instant builds on the warmer conversational tone introduced in GPT-5.1 and improves responses to info-seeking questions, how-tos, and walkthroughs.
