GTA 6 Developer Visited by Police & Fire Service After Incident — Report

On January 19, GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games reportedly suffered a terrifying boiler “malfunction” at their headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported at the studio. Rockstar Games is the studio behind the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto games. Fans are wondering if this unfortunate incident will delay GTA 6 any further.

GTA 6 studio responds after boiler incident

GTA 6 studio Rockstar Games HQ boiler “malfunction” sent waves of panic and fear among gamers.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told The Herald, “We were alerted at 5:02 am on Monday, 19 January, to attend an incident on Holyrood Road, Edinburgh. Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to secure structural damage at a commercial building.”

Continuing further, the spokesperson added, “There were no reported casualties, and crews left the scene at 9:21 am”. The exact nature of the incident is unclear. However, The Herald reports that several publications suggested that the root cause can be attributed to an “explosion in a boiler room.” The fire crew reportedly remained on-site for four hours and left only when the situation stabilized.

But in a new development, a Rockstar Games representative shared more details about the horrifying incident. The representative told IGN, “Early Monday morning, there was a malfunction in one of the heating boilers at Rockstar North. Please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.”

Furthermore, the statement stated, “Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation.”

Rockstar Games originally planned to release GTA 6 in May 2026, but then postponed it to November. However, based on recent developments, it may not be released until 2027. The last game of the series, Grand Theft Auto 5, was released in 2013.

Gamers were worried that the malfunction might result in another delay. However, now that Rockstar Games’ representative has confirmed that the studio was open and operational within a few hours, fans are hopeful they can keep the November date.
