Fortnite Fans Aren’t Impressed by the Solo Leveling Sung Jinwoo Skin

Fortnite’s latest crossover reveal has sparked backlash online after Epic Games shared a closer look at Sung Jin-Woo’s upcoming in-game skin. The collaboration between Fortnite and “Solo Leveling: Arise” was highly anticipated, especially after months of leaks and teasers.

However, instead of universal excitement, the first official preview has left a portion of the fanbase frustrated. Many players expected inspiration from the hit anime adaptation rather than the gacha game version.

Fans slam Fortnite’s Sung Jinwoo skin amid of Solo Leveling collab release

Epic Games previously confirmed that Sung Jin-Woo would arrive during Chapter 7 Season 1. In a recent promotional video, the protagonist is shown performing his iconic resurrection spell on Igris, the Blood-red Commander, strongly hinting that Igris will also receive a playable skin. The trailer further confirmed licensing ties to Netmarble, signaling that the crossover is specifically with the game adaptation rather than the anime series.

The biggest complaint centers on Jin-Woo’s outfit. Instead of the anime’s simpler blue hoodie look, Fortnite opted for his long black, zipper-heavy coat design from “Solo Leveling: Arise”.

Fans quickly dubbed it the “gacha design,” arguing it lacks the recognizable aesthetic that made the anime version so popular. One viral post joked that the collaboration ensured their “wallet has never been safer,” while another widely liked comment teased that developers “had trouble staying awake to make it.”

Despite the backlash, not all reactions have been negative. Many players welcomed Igris’ inclusion, particularly after the trailer showcased both his original red armor and Shadow form. Additional cosmetics, including a “Godly Statuette” backbling and an “Ahjin Guild” emoticon, have also been confirmed. Rumors about Cha Hae-in’s skin continue to circulate ahead of the expected February 20 release.

The controversy comes amid strong demand for anime-based collaborations, especially after Solo Leveling became one of Crunchyroll’s highest-rated titles. While Season 3 faces delays, the game adaptation has remained active, which may explain Epic’s decision. Whether disappointed fans change their minds once the skins go live remains to be seen.
