Sonic x Fortnite Rumored To Happen, but Not the Way Fans Expected

According to recent leaks, a Sonic X Fortnite collaboration might be in the works at Epic Games. While this brings the beloved multi-dimensional hedgehog to one of the most popular games around, some fans may find it surprising how the studio is implementing it.

Sonic x Fortnite collab leaked, but with a twist

In surprising news, SEGA and Epic Games may be teaming up for a rare crossover. A user on X, AdiraFNInfo, has posted, “SONIC x FORTNITE: A full collab with Sonic is in development and will come to Fortnite! The collab will likely be skins NOT pets.” The user has not mentioned any release timeline.

At the time of writing, there is no official announcement from either of the game studios. However, the user has previously been a good source of Fortnite leaks in the past. However, not everyone is impressed with the details.

According to the post, Sonic would be introduced as a playable skin rather than a pet. Many have pointed out that Sonic’s proportions could cause a lot of visual inconsistencies, such as janky animation. Others believe that a life-sized Sonic wielding a weapon will look out of character. These problems will ultimately hamper the gamer’s experience. These concerns stem from previous collaborations, such as the South Park crossover, where the character proportions felt off to some players

As a result, fans were hoping that Sonic would be added as a pet, also known as Sidekicks, similar to how the game added SpongeBob SquarePants and Baby Groot last year. Given their smaller stature, featuring them as sidekicks seemed natural. Both of these characters were added as sidekicks during the Winterfest event in December 2025 and were well-received.

For those unfamiliar, sidekicks accompany players during their match and respond to the environment. The character would even interact with the player during an emote. These tag-along characters are available to purchase through the in-game store.
