New Assassin’s Creed & Far Cry Games in Development, Ubisoft CEO Says

Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft‘s CEO and co-founder, recently shared promising updates on the company’s biggest franchises: Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed. His comments come days after the company laid off tens of employees amid a significant yet “selective restructuring.”

Ubisoft CEO confirms Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed games

Yves Guillemot, the co-founder and current CEO of Ubisoft, the French video game developer and publisher, shared details about the future of the Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Rainbow Six franchises.

In an email interview with Variety, Guillemot shared a roadmap for Vantage Studio, the company’s new subsidiary studio tasked with handling the aforementioned franchises. When asked about his plans for them, he confirmed that multiple projects are underway.

First, focusing on Assassin’s Creed, Guillemot said the studio is currently working on several experiences, including both single-player and multiplayer. The company aims to exceed 30 million active users, an impressive milestone Ubisoft reportedly achieved last year.

For the Far Cry franchise, the executive said they have two “very promising projects in development.” This should give fans of the franchise a sense of relief, since the last game in the franchise was Far Cry 6, released in 2021.

Finally, regarding the Rainbow Six franchise, Guillemot claimed that the game has more than 2.5 million players per day across all platforms. According to SteamDB, the game has a 24-hour peak of over 111,000 players on Steam alone. And after considering players on consoles, Epic Games, and Ubisoft’s own platform, Ubisoft Connect, the numbers could be significantly higher.

Guillemot also spoke about Rainbow Six’s success in the Chinese market, thanks to its recent partnership with Tencent, the Chinese conglomerate that now owns a significant stake in Ubisoft’s Vantage Studios. Furthermore, Guillemot noted that with the release of Rainbow Six Mobile on February 23, players will be able to play the game from anywhere in the world.

With the ongoing selective restructuring, the company is targeting an additional €200 million in cost reductions. This will result in five “creative houses” for better management and brand development.
