X (formerly Twitter) has announced a significant update to enhance the user experience for its premium subscribers. The change promises to redefine how users interact with the platform’s AI capabilities. The spotlight now shifts to “Ask Grok”, the cutting-edge AI feature that will now be exclusive to premium users.
X converts ‘Ask Grok’ feature to premium-only feature
X has elevated the bar with its AI feature “Ask Grok“, making it a premium offering, designed to deliver unparalleled value to its elite users.
Users who have grown accustomed to accessing the AI bot for free will now need to subscribe to a premium plan to continue leveraging the feature in threads. “Ask Grok” is now exclusive to Premium and Premium+ subscribers.
The strategic change, announced by X, marks a significant shift in the platform’s approach to AI-driven interactions. Furthermore, it underscores X’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology and exceptional experiences.
Grok acknowledged the update on X. The post retweeted by CNBC TV18 reads, “Yes, that’s correct – the ‘Ask Grok’ feature (summoning me in thread replies) is now available to only X Premium and Premium+ subscribers.”
Free-tier users can still access Grok via the dedicated tab on X or at grok.com, but with limited capabilities.
In thread replies, “Ask Grok” serves as a powerful tool. It allows users to summon the AI bot’s expertise to seek guidance, answers, or fresh perspectives mid-conversation. The feature has become integral to X’s ecosystem, especially among users relying on AI for rapid insights and information. Users could simply ping Grok in a thread reply and get an instant AI-generated response, all without leaving the conversation.
Now, accessing Grok’s in-thread “Ask Grok” feature requires a subscription to X Premium or Premium+. The Premium plan costs $8 (around ₹740) per month, while Premium+ costs $40 (around ₹3,700) per month. This change limits the feature’s availability to paid users only.
Earlier this year, Grok faced backlash after users exploited it to create AI-generated images that removed women’s clothing from their own photos. This prompted X to temporarily block free users from generating images via Ask Grok.
