Keychron K3 Ultra Review

Keychron K3 Ultra Wireless Keyboard Review

The Keychron K3 Ultra wireless keyboard is launching alongside the K3 HE, but while the HE variant focuses more on new Hall Effect switch tech, the K3 Ultra is more focused on a traditional switch approach combined with an up-to-8,000 Hz polling rate. The K3 Ultra is designed for those who might not want the Hall Effect switches, but still desire a solid overall low-profile keyboard experience. Here’s how it fared during my review process.

The K3 Ultra’s 8,000 Hz polling rate

Keychron K3 Ultra Review

As mentioned in the intro, the K3 Ultra has an up-to-8,000 Hz polling rate. For those desiring top-of-the-line responsiveness, 8,000 Hz is the way to go right now. All of the top gaming keyboards are including it, so clearly there’s something to shout about.

With no Hall Effect switches to speak of, the K3 Ultra instead uses Keychron’s Milk POM low-profile switches, which are superbly smooth. I’d say they feel and sound better than the Hall Effect variant, but obviously they lack the additional magnetic switch functionality.

Out of the box experience

Getting set up is made easy thanks to the Launcher web app, which saves settings to the keyboard. This means you won’t have to download any pesky apps, so there’s nothing hogging your system resources or anything like that.

In use, the K3 Ultra works well. However, if I’m frank, the difference between 1,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz in a keyboard is lost on me, but for those who feel they need it, it’s included here. Beyond that, the switches are quick to actuate and feel good while gaming and typing. Low-profile switches can sometimes let the rest of the keyboard down, but I’m happy to report that this isn’t the case here.

The obvious downside

Keychron K3 Ultra Review

It’s easy to point out the main shortcoming of the K3 Ultra, as the K3 HE with its Hall Effect switches is launching right there beside it. If I was buying a low-profile keyboard, as both a gamer and office worker, I’d be dropping the extra $10 and going for the K3 HE.

However, for those who don’t care about Hall Effect switches and would happily forgo them to save $10 and get a slightly better sounding keyboard, then the K3 Ultra exists for that audience.

Final Verdict

At $109.99, the Keychron K3 Ultra wireless keyboard is a solid low-profile option with a lot going for it. It may be overshadowed by its sibling for some buyers, but for anyone after a more traditional experience, there’s still plenty to like here.
