Tell GR: What Do You Think of the Telltale Games Closure?

Telltale Games is closing down. The developer, responsible for narrative games such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, has laid off the majority of its staff, using a skeleton crew to polish off its remaining contractual obligations. In a statement, the company cited low sales as the reason behind the decision, with it unable to pull itself out of a tough financial situation as a result.

Despite Telltale having been a staple of the gaming landscape for quite some time, diminishing sales led to the studio being unable to stay afloat. While the ins-and-outs of the decision to shutter operations haven’t been revealed, controversy has surrounded the announcement, leading to fresh calls for unionization in the games industry.

The pro-union site Game Workers Unite has released a statement calling Telltale’s executives “incompetent.” The lack of severance pay reportedly received by staff members has also been roundly criticized, while Telltale was said to have been hiring staff only weeks before making its final decision. All-in-all it’s a disastrous situation,  with fans of the studio also being left in the dark in regards to what will become of The Walking Dead‘s final season.

But what do you think of the Telltale Games closure, GameRevolution readers? As always, let us know in the comments section below!
