Wolfenstein 2 Enigma Code Patterns

Wolfenstein 2 Enigma Machine: How to Decode Cards

The Enigma Machine returns in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and you’ll find Enigma Cards as a collectible item. In The New Order they were used to unlock new modes, but here they’ll be essential for opening paths to new side missions that will allow you to get your hands on useful gear. You won’t get a chance actually to use the Enigma Machine until later in the game, but you’ll want to be collecting Enigma Codes from the very start. Below we show you how to find Enigma Codes in Wolfenstein 2, how to decode them, and what they unlock.

How to Get Enigma Codes in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein 2 Nazi Officer

Getting your hands on Enigma Codes can be tough. Unlike the other collectibles in the game, they’re not tied to one place and waiting for you just to stroll up and grab them. Instead, they’re held by Nazi Commanders, the officers who coordinate the alarms for an area, and who can prove to be incredibly elusive.

Finding a Nazi Commander isn’t too tough. When you’re near one, an indicator will appear at the top of the screen showing the direction and distance of the commander. If you’re stealthy, and preferably equipped with the silenced pistol, you can take out these soldiers before they can raise the alarm and call in reinforcements. If they manage to detect you, plan on taking out a swath of soldiers before you get a chance to kill the commander.

Once you kill a Nazi Commander, to get his Enigma Code you merely need to walk over to him and pick it up. Every single commander will drop a code, so it’s worth it to go out of your way to kill them.

How to Decode With the Enigma Machine Mini-Game in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

While you’ll have the ability to pick up codes from commanders from the very beginning, you won’t get a chance to decode any of them until after you get back to Eva’s Hammer after visiting the Manhattan Nuclear Bunker. You’ll get a notification when the Enigma Machine is finally available to use.

You can find the Enigma Machine near the helm. You’ll activate the chair, and it will elevate you to the terminal. When you turn the computer on you’ll see a list of names, and a number to the right of each one. The number indicates how many Enigma Codes it takes to decode the info for that selection.

When you start decoding, you’ll see seven patterns at the top, and the first one will be highlighted. You’ll need to use the left and right analog sticks to match the pattern at the bottom with the highlighted one at the top. Once you complete all seven, you’ll get the info you desire.

If you don’t complete the patterns in time, you’ll lose one Enigma Code.

Unlock Übercommander Locations with Enigma Codes in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein 2 Uberkommandant Board

When you successfully enter a code into the Enigma Machine, you’ll gain the information on the whereabouts on an Übercommander. These high-ranking officers control large forces or important locations throughout the United States, and killing them will destabilize the Nazi regime.

Once you unlock an Übercommander’s location, you can go to the war map and launch a mission to assassinate them. These side missions will take you to areas you’ve already been in the game, but with minor-to-major changes. You’ll get the opportunity to get any collectibles you missed when you were first in the area, and when you kill the Überkommandant, you’ll get his Death Card. Furthermore, there is some equipment that you can only get if you play through these quests.
