Super Mario Odyssey Uncle Amiibo

Super Mario Odyssey: How to Use Amiibo

Super Mario Odyssey amiibo support lets you use almost all of the figurines to get an item or make something happen. However, you can’t use amiibo at the start of the game. You’ll have to meet Uncle Amiibo first, but it’ll take a little bit of playing to find him. Below we’ll show you where Uncle Amiibo shows up, and how to scan your figures.

Super Mario Odyssey Uncle Amiibo

Before Uncle Amiibo appears, you’ll need to play up until the Sand Kingdom. You’ll have to get the first multi-moon from Harriet in the Showdown on the Inverted Pyramid quest. Once you do that, the pyramid will rise into the hair, making it even colder in the desert.

After the pyramid rises, you’ll get The Hole in the Desert quest. Head to the hole where the pyramid used to be and jump down in it. Once you get through the dungeon, you’ll fight Knucklotec. Once he’s down, you’ll spawn near the Odyssey, and it will be warm again.

Near the Odyssey, you’ll meet Hint Toad and Uncle Amiibo for the first time. After talking to him once you can scan amiibo to your heart’s content.

How to Scan Amiibo in Super Mario Odyssey

To scan an amiibo you’ll need to hold right on the D-Pad on your controller until the amiibo icon appears in the center of your screen. Once it’s up you can tap the amiibo on the area on your controller that contains the NFC reader.

For the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller, you scan an amiibo by holding it near the right analog stick.

If you’re using the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, you’ll want to hover your amiibo over the area in the upper-center of the controller where the Switch logo is located.
