Super Mario Odyssey amiibo Costumes: How to Unlock the Outfits Without the Figures

Super Mario Odyssey amiibo costumes can be obtained one of two ways. You can use the figure to get some outfits, or just earn them in game. All sorts of amiibo work with Super Mario Odyssey, but only a specific few will give you clothing. Below we’ll show you how to unlock amiibo costumes, and what you can do to skip out on buying the NFC figurines entirely.

How to Use amiibo to Unlock Costumes in Super Mario Odyssey

Before you can use any amiibo in Super Mario Odyssey, you have to meet a new NPC: Uncle amiibo. You can first meet Uncle amiibo after completing the Cascade Kingdom. Once you’ve moved on to the Sand Kingdom and Tostarena, you can find him on your map and seek him out.

When you talk to him, he’ll ask you if you have any amiibo. You can scan up to three every five minutes. Scanning them will make the amiibo search out Power Moon locations for you. For certain other amiibo though you’ll get an outfit unlocked.

Which amiibo Unlock Costumes in Super Mario Odyssey?

Ten different outfits can be unlocked with amiibo in the game. Some costumes can only be obtained with one specific amiibo, while others can be gained as a reward for using several different kinds of figures. Below we’ve listed all ten costumes that can be unlocked with amiibo, and the alternate means to unlock them by completing tasks in the game.

Classic Mario

  • Amiibo Unlock: You can get the Classic Suit and Classic Cap by scanning the Mario Party Mario, either 8-Bit Mario, or Super Smash Bros. Mario.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: Reach the Mushroom Kingdom and buy both items in the Crazy Cap Shop.

Diddy Kong

  • Amiibo Unlock: Use the Mario Party Diddy Kong or Smash Bros. Diddy Kong to unlock this costume.
  • Obtain Without Amiibo: Collect 320 Power Moons and buy the outfit in any Crazy Cap Shop.

Dr. Mario

  • Amiibo Unlock: You can get the Doctor Outfit and Doctor Headwear by scanning the Dr. Mario amiibo.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: Find 240 Power Moons and purchase it at any Crazy Cap Shop.

Gold Mario

  • Amiibo Unlock: You can unlock the Gold Mario Suit and Gold Mario Cap by scanning the Gold or Silver Mario amiibo.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: Get at least 520 Power Moons and purchase the items from any Crazy Cap Shop.

Luigi

  • Amiibo Unlock: You can get the Luigi costume by scanning the Mario Party or Smash Bros. Luigi.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: To get the Luigi costume without amiibo, you need to get at least 180 Power Moons and purchase it at any Crazy Cap Shop.

Waluigi

  • Amiibo Unlock: You must use the Mario Party Waluigi amiibo to get this costume.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: Get your hands on 280 Moons, and you can buy this costume from the shop.

Wario

  • Amiibo Unlock: You can use the Mario Party or Smash Bros. Wario amiibo to get this costume.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: You’ll need to get 360 Moons before you can purchase this outfit in the shop.

Wedding Mario

  • Amiibo Unlock: Use the Super Mario Odyssey Wedding Mario amiibo to unlock this outfit instantly.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: You’ll get this costume automatically when you reach the Moon Kingdom.

Wedding Bowser

  • Amiibo Unlock: Scan the Super Mario Odyssey Wedding Bowser to get this costume.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: You’ll need to collect 440 Power Moons before you can purchase this outfit in the Crazy Cap Shop.

Wedding Peach

  • Amiibo Unlock: Use the Super Mario Odyssey Wedding Peach amiibo to get this lovely outfit.
  • Obtain Without amiibo: Rack up 480 Power Moons, and you can buy this from the costume store.
