What is Shooting Test for Fortnite?

Fortnite on Chromebook: Can You Download Battle Royale?

With Fortnite Battle Royale being one of the most popular games there is right now, those who don’t own a PS4, Xbox One or a decent PC to play the game on are scouring the internet in order to find out how to play it using their lowly Chromebook.

Chromebooks are ideal for browsing the internet, though aren’t particularly useful for gaming. Though games can be downloaded via the Google Play Store, most popular releases won’t be able to run on these low-end laptops. So is Fortnite Battle Royale any different?

Can You Download Fortnite Battle Royale on a Chromebook?

Fortnite is not available on ChromeOS, which is your first stumbling block. With the game only officially supported on PC/Mac, PS4, and Xbox One, it has been suggested that players can find a workaround by way of downloading Linux, though this presents its own issues.

In order to get Fortnite to work on Linux, users would also be required to download Wine, a “compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on several POSIX-compliant operating systems.” Though this has been suggested by some users, Wine actually cannot run Fortnite Battle Royale as a result of it relying on BattlEye anti-cheat, which does not work through the program.

Even if players were to get a workaround up and running, the reality is that the minimum specifications for Fortnite Battle Royale are out of the reaches of the vast majority of Chromebooks. This is a shame, though as Chromebooks are intended to be affordable alternatives to laptops, it’s not really surprising.

Alternatives to Fortnite

If your dreams have been dashed by not being able to play Fortnite on Chromebook, then there are a few alternatives that can keep you going in the meantime. There are a variety of survival games available to play using ChromeOS, that you’re able to download on the Google Play Store.

Though these games have hardly attracted the same level of attention as Fortnite Battle Royale, they can serve as adequate substitutes until you get yourself a machine that can run Epic Games’ hit title. Games such as Knives Out, Survivor Royale, and Free Fire – Battlegrounds each scale down the thrill of Battle Royale games such as Fortnite and PUBG for low-end machines. If you’re missing out on Fortnite, you may find some solace in these diluted alternatives.
