Ni no Kuni 2 Review

Ni no Kuni 2 How Long to Beat: How Long to Beat Ni no Kuni 2?

When diving into how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2, there are actually quite a lot of factors involved. You have to get into difficulty, the ability of the player, if you’re focusing just on the main story or also side quests, and so on. With a massive JRPG like this one, you can fully expect it to be a time sinker.

Because of how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2, many players will be turned off by its length. However, fans of the JRPG genre will find themselves elated by the dozens upon dozens of hours that can be spent grinding and completing content in its gorgeous world. So how long is it? Let’s dig into it.

How Long to Beat Ni no Kuni 2?

To answer the question of how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2, it’s actually a lot trickier than in other games, even JRPG’s. This is because this massive sequel has some odd design choices that extend the length of the game significantly and, quite frankly, unnecessarily.

When the credits rolled on our playthrough of the main story, we had put in just over 40 hours total. However, those 40 hours are very misleading as to how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2 is padded out by “optional” side quests and content that aren’t actually optional at all.

Like we mentioned in our review (you can find more on this there), there are “optional” side quests and an extra kingdom building mechanic that significantly extends the game time. The game requires you near the end of the story to upgrade your kingdom in order to see how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2 really is.

This is rather unfortunate because when you take away the “optional” stuff we did, it was really only around 30 hours that we spent playing the main story. We expect the “optional” (aka required) content to take around 10 hours for most players on how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2.

Couple that with the fact that we were significantly under-leveled for the final boss, and we expect most players will find themselves in the 45-50 hours range for how long to beat Ni no Kuni 2 just for the story. For everything in total, we expect around 75-80 hours total. This is pretty similar to the first game.
