I. INTRODUCTION [BLInt]
=======================================================================
This game is the first Dragon Ball Z game to be released on the Xbox
360 and the PlayStation 3. It's made in the same style as the Budokai
games, and while it sports an overall smaller roster, each character is
much more unique in his fighting style. The only problem is that the
game is missing some pivotal characters, though you're probably sure to
find your favorites among the cast of the game.
This FAQ is written for the Xbox 360 version, though the two games are
basically identical, so you can use it for the PS3 version anyway.

II. CONTROLS AND BATTLE SYSTEM [BLCon]

A - Block
B - Energy Attack
X - Normal Attack
Y - Smash Attack
Start - Bring up menu
Left Analog - Move character
Right Analog
RB - Transform
LB - Aura Spark
LT - Throw
RT - Taunt

Ki Gauge
--------
The ki gauge at the bottom of the screen indicates how much ki you have.
Less ki means you can only stick to physical attacks (X and Y) while
higher Ki allows you to make use of energy attacks more often (B). The
Ki Gauge will decrease whenever you use a vanishing attack, ki blast, or
super move. When it is full you can use it to fire off an ultimate move
or transform, both of which will drain it to zero. The number of levels
on your ki gauge is decided according to what your ultimate move is.

Transformations
---------------
When you press the RB button while your Ki gauge is full, your character
will transform into their next level of power. Each progression will
give more attack power, but less defense. Also, you must change directly
into the next level; for example, Goku's transformation order is:
Normal -> Kaio Ken -> Super Saiyan
You cannot change from normal to Super Saiyan immediately. You must go
through Kaio Ken in order to do so.

Aura Spark
----------
Aura Sparks can be used when your ki is at full. While in aura spark mode
your attack and speed increase, and you can do a pursuit attack. Ki will
consistently drain in this mode, but not immediately, which means you can
use an ultimate move before it starts draining to unleash a super powerful
attack.

Fatigue
-------
Fatigue is the bar above your life bar in battle. As you take damage the
fatigue bar will fill. Once it is filled you will be dazed for a while,
opening you up for any attack the opponent pleases. You can press all
four face buttons continuously in order to shorten this time period.

Self explanatory.

Drama Pieces
------------
These are the same as capsules in the Budokai games, offering you support
for various conditions fulfilled.

Vanishing Attack
----------------
When you use a heavy smash attack, you can use RT in order to disappear and
reappear behind your opponent and smash him again. This can go on for as
long as you have Ki.

Pursuit Attack
--------------
When you use a heavy smash attack during aura spark, you can then use LT in
order to chase after your enemy and continue attacking. During this period
you can continually press your face buttons in order to succeed (in which
case you will do a huge amount of damage) or fail (the opponent will block
your attacks). You can tell if you're succeeding if the combo counter keeps
counting up during the pursuit attack.

4.1 SAIYAN SAGA [BLSai]

01. Saiyan Arrived! - Goku vs. Raditz
You're going to want to use a Kamehameha as soon as you can to
activate the first drama piece. If you're having trouble with the
fight, Piccolo and Gohan will help you as your health diminishes,
and each will take out a sizable amount of Raditz's health. Gohan's
drama piece won't activate until you've almost lost though. A good
way to win is to wait until your Ki Gauge is full, use Aura Spark,
and then use Puruit attacks for as long as you have ki. Use Up + Y
then press LT in order to execute the pursuit attack. Keep doing
this if Raditz leaves any openings because you can easily take off
a huge chunk of life with the pursuit attack.
02. Piccolo's Trump Card! - Piccolo vs. Raditz
Largely the same as the previous battle. Again, pursuit attacks
will do a lot of good.
03. Saibaman: Enemies from the Soil! - Tien vs. Saibaman
Tien is a quick attacker and he attacks strike rather low, so he is
more than a match for the Saibaman. Use pursuit attacks whenever
possible.
04. The Saibaman Strike! - Yamcha vs. Saibaman
Use Wolf Fang Fist as often as possible, as it's fast and difficult
to dodge. Alternate between it, kamehameha, and pursuit attacks.
05. The Power of Rage! - Nappa vs. Tien
Nappa is incredibly powerful, as each of his hits will take off
rather large amount of Tien's health. Use pursuit attacks, and
don't let Tien attack as he has a nasty habit of comboing multiple
attacks at once.
06. Nappa... the Invincible? - Nappa vs. Krillin
Same as last battle, though Krillin is slower but smaller than Tien.
Try using long range attacks to soften him up before going in for the
kill.
07. Gohan's Test! - Gohan vs. Nappa
Gohan is really small, compared to Nappa's huge figure, so Nappa's attacks
will fly over your head rather often, but most of his attacks can still
hit you. Go in low and do pursuit attacks, since he can barely defend
against them.
08. Goku's Quiet Rage! - Goku vs. Nappa
Transform with Kaioken and then use pursuit attacks. Nappa is no match
for Goku, but his attacks can still pack a wallop if you're not careful.
Be especially careful of his Break Cannon, as it's incredibly damaging.
09. Final Battle, Beyond All Limits! - Goku vs. Vegeta
Vegeta is stronger and faster than Nappa, and he also has a penchant for
using pursuit attacks. Transform into Kaioken as soon as you get the
chance, then lock him into a pursuit attack. Try doing one as soon as
the last one finishes, so he won't have a chance to attack you. If you
find yourself getting pounded on you'll want to stay back and fire off
ki blasts until he leaves an opening for you to exploit.

4.2 FRIEZA SAGA [BLFre]

01. Ginyu Assault! - Vegeta vs. Recoome
Recoome is huge and powerful. So huge, in fact, that many of his attacks
can miss even normal sized characters if he's not careful. Use pursuit
attacks as much as possible, and again, if you're being beat up badly,
use ki blasts from afar.
02. Recoome Attacks! - Recoome vs. Gohan
This battle is diffcult, as it's the biggest character in the game
against the smallest. As a result, ALMOST ALL of Recoome's attacks will
fly right over Gohan's head. For this battle you'll want to make use
of throws, so jab on LT as much as you can to get Gohan on the ground.
Try using pursuit attacks too, but Gohan will knock you out of them
often thanks to Recoome's penchant for posing before attacking.
03. The Fruits of Training! - Goku vs. Recoome
Use the Kaioken transformation, then start using pursuit attacks.
If Recoome catches you in one of his throws, back off and start using
ki blasts.
04. Captain Ginyu Attacks! - Goku vs. Captain Ginyu
Captain Ginyu is slow, so use that to your advantage. Kaioken, Aura
Spark, and pursuit attack, as always.
05. Gohan, Defeat Your Dad! - Gohan vs. Captain Ginyu (Goku)
Gohan's faster than Ginyu-in-Goku, so attack mercilessly, and use
pursuit attacks whenever possible. Ginyu still has his trademark
attacks, which aren't that strong, really, so this is an easy win.
06. Goku is Ginyu and Ginyu is Goku! - Krillin vs. Captain Ginyu (Goku)
Same as the last fight, aura spark and pursuit attack often.
07. Ginyu's Defeat! - Vegeta vs. Captain Ginyu (Goku)
Same as the last fight. Vegeta's quick and powerful, so pursuit attacks
will do very nicely here.
08. Frieza Appears! - Vegeta vs. Frieza
Frieza is incredibly powerful, so you have to hit him fast and hard.
Again, pursuit attacks are really useful, but also try to hit him
with an aura sparked ultimate attack, as that can knock a huge amount
off of his health. Be careful however, as using an ultimate attack
can leave you open.
09. Frieza's Rage! - Kid Gohan vs. Frieza
Same as last battle, use your ultimate/super attacks as much as possible.
When Frieza leaves himself open, use pursuit attacks.
10. Krillin, Save Gohan! - Krillin vs. Frieza
Same as last fight.
11. Piccolo's Return! - Piccolo vs. Frieza
Frieza transformed again, so he's stronger and faster. Have Piccolo use
super/ultimate attacks when there's an opening, otherwise use pursuit
attacks.
12. Frieza's Next Transformation! - Frieza vs. Piccolo
You're playing as Frieza now, and he's fast and strong, so use pursuit
attacks liberally. Piccolo is rather slow, but his attacks can be rather
damaging, so be sure to start strafing when he looks like he's about to
use an ultimate or super move, so you can dodge it.
13. The Power of Frieza! - Kid Gohan vs. Frieza
Frieza's big now, and Kid Gohan's small, but this isn't like Recoome,
where everything will fly over your head. Dash in, hit him a few times,
then back out for a super/ultimate when your ki recharges. If you can,
use aura spark then pursuit attack.
14. Frieza's Final Form! - Frieza vs. Vegeta
Frieza's height is no longer larger than the other characters, which
means his attacks are even faster and stronger than before. Vegeta is
tough, and can get you if you're not careful, so use pursuit attacks
often. If he keeps blocking or knocking you out of them, try attacking
from a distance.
15. Goku vs. Frieza: Two Powers Collide - Goku vs. Frieza
Use the Kaioken transformation and then attack Frieza with your enhanced
speed and attack. Once your ki bar fills again, aura spark and use
pursuit attacks. This will take off huge amounts of health from Frieza.
Don't use an Ultimate Aura Spark Attack, as Frieza will knock you out of
it or dodge it, depending on the distance.
16. The Legendary Warrior Awakens! - Goku vs. Frieza
As before, pursuit attacks are useful, and you can start as soon as your
ki gauge maxes out for the first time as you start out transformed into
a Super Saiyan for this battle. This is possibly the easiest battle in the
entire arc.

4.2.1 BARDOCK SAGA [BLBar]

17. Alone for the Final Battle! - Bardock vs. Frieza
Bardock is basically a downgraded Goku, so the tactics in battle 15
should do just fine here.
18. Dream or Reality! - Bardock vs. Krillin
Pursuit attacks are your friend. Use them often, and Krillin won't
stand a chance.
19. Veteran Warrior vs. Saiyan Prince! - Bardock vs. Vegeta
Vegeta's quick so you'll need to find a good window of opportunity
in order to hit him with a pursuit attack. Whatever you do, don't
use an Ultimate Aura Spark attack, he'll knock you out of it for
sure.
20. Warrior Race! - Bardock vs. Goku
Goku's fast and strong, so you can't give him a chance to counterattack.
Run in, hit him as many times as you can, back off, repeat. When your
ki gauge maxes out, Aura Spark and use pursuit attacks. Doing this a few
times should finish him off.

4.3 CELL SAGA [BLCll]

01. Goku's Family Training! - Goku vs. Teen Gohan
Teen Gohan is larger than kid Gohan but still smaller than most other
characters. Still, he is susceptible to pursuit attacks, as always.
He also doesn't mind letting you super/ultimate attack him.
02. The Androids Appear! - Android 18 vs. Vegeta
Android 18 is very fast and can combo well, so use her combo attacks
on Vegeta while your ki gauge fills. When it is full, use pursuit
attacks after aura sparking.
03. Terror of the Androids! - Android 17 vs. Piccolo
Same as the last battle, Android 17 is slightly stronger and slower
than Android 18. As before, use your combo attacks then pursuit attacks.
04. His Name is Cell! - Piccolo vs. Cell
Cell's fast, but weak. Use pursuit attacks to weaken him and finish
him off with an ultimate/super move.
05. Piccolo's New Technique - Piccolo vs. Android 17
Android 17 is fast and can combo well, so don't let him get close. Use
long range attacks to keep him at a distance, and then aura spark and
pursuit attack him when you get the chance.
06. Say Goodbye, #17! - Cell vs. Android 17
Like last time, try not to let Android 17 hit you, because he can easily
combo you. Use pursuit attacks whenever you can and try to hit him
with a few kamehamehas.
07. Beyond the Limit! - Trunks vs. Vegeta
Use throws a lot, as well as pursuit attacks. Vegeta is aggressive so
you'll have to play defensively. If you can get into a decent distance,
use super/ultimate attacks.
08. #16's Last Stand! - Android 16 vs. Cell
Android 16 is slow but powerful. Use his rocket punch to attack Cell
from afar then aura spark and pursuit attack. Cell should fall with no
real problems.
09. Tien Risks it All! - Tien vs. Cell
Tien is much faster than Cell, so attack quickly. Cell is strong, so you
want to take as few hits as possible. Use pursuit attacks as much as you
can.
10. I am Super Vegeta! - Vegeta vs. Cell
Vegeta is strong, but slow right now, even slower than Cell's current
form, so you'll want to use super/ultimate attacks at a distance. When
Cell's knocked down, use aura spark and start using pursuit attacks on
him. Eventually he'll be defeated.
11. Gohan's Hidden Power! - Teen Gohan vs. Goku
Teen Gohan is quick, so let Goku have it right from the start. Make use
of pursuit attacks and throws often.
12. Evolution of Cell! - Cell vs. vegeta
Cell is fast and strong, so keep attacking Vegeta with everything you have.
Vegeta's still powerful, however, so don't let him hit you. Use pursuit
attacks often and super/ultimate moves if you're being overwhelmed.
13. Beyond Super Saiyan! - Cell vs. Trunks
Trunks is incredibly slow, but if he hits you he'll take off huge amounts
of damage. His attacks have a long start up time though, so you could
probably easily dodge them if you watch for them. Since he's so slow, he
leaves himself open to pursuit attacks often.
14. Piccolo Vs. Piccolo! - Piccolo vs. Piccolo
Pursuit attacks and throws win the day here since the opponent is the same
character as yours.
15. The Cell Games Begin - Goku vs. Cell
Cell's faster than Goku, so you'll want to use throws, supers, and
ultimates in order to knock him down. While he's down, rush in and pursuit
attack him once he gets up.
16. Faith in a Boy! - Cell vs. Teen Gohan
Teen Gohan is small, but you're short enough to hit him with almost all of
your attacks. However, he's still faster, so that means you'll want to
knock him down first. The old standbys - throws, supers, ultimates - can
easily knock down Gohan and set him up for pursuit attacks.
17. The Unstoppable Gohan! - Teen Gohan vs. Cell
Teen Gohan is now faster and stronger than Cell. Use pursuit attacks to
take Cell out, and if you can't pull them off, the knockdown attacks will
help set him up for it.
18. Perfect Cell! - Cell vs. Vegeta
Vegeta is slow, and Cell is much faster, so again, use pursuit attacks
in order to defeat Vegeta. Knockdown attacks are immensely useful for
setup as always.
19. Father and Son! - Teen Gohan vs. Cell
Gohan has lost some of his strength but this shouldn't be too big of a
hassle. Use pursuit attacks as much as you can, whichc shouldn't have
problems connecting, as Gohan's much faster.

4.3.2 BROLY SAGA [BLBrl]

20. The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly! - Broly vs. Krillin
Broly is huge and rather slow moving, and his super/ultimates are near
useless, so make use of throws as much as possible. His charge time
for heavy smashes are high, making pursuit attacks less of a mainstay
than in previous battles. The throws can setup for a pursuit attack
but otherwise, don't try them.
21. The Power of Hate! - Broly vs. Teen Gohan
As before, but Teen Gohan is smaller and harder to hit, making throws
that much more important. Use low attacks to catch him off guard,
and throws to knock him down.
22. The Demon of Fear and Death! - Broly vs. Piccolo
Piccolo's a larger target than either of your earlier battles using
Broly so his pursuit attack can be used more often now, though you
still don't want to use them too much. As always, rely on throws.
23. Unstoppable Terror! - Broly vs. Trunks
Throws, again. Use knockdown on throw to setup for vanishing attacks
and pursuit attacks so you can get his health down as much as possible
in as short a span of time as possible.
24. Super Saiyans Clash! - Broly vs. Vegeta
Vegeta is slow, so you can make use of pursuit attacks here. Just be
sure to knock him down first so that you can hit right after he
recovers, as he can easily knock you out of your pursuit attack if
you're not careful.
25. Final Battle! Goku Vs. Broly! - Broly vs. Goku
Goku is fast and strong. Use throws to knock him off his feet, and
pursuit attacks to finish him off. Since this is the final battle in
the game, Goku is more difficult to defeat than previous opponents.
However, he's still not too hard - your usual attack strategy is
more than enough to win.

The secret characters in this game actually aren't so secret at all;
you can get Bardock by beating Cell Saga up to mission 19. After
finishing the Bardock missions, you then unlock the Broly missions,
which show up on the Cell Saga screen. This will unlock Bardock.

SECRET MODES

On the main menu of the game you will see the trial mode. This mode
allows you to enter challenge modes. Initially, you will only see
survival mode. Play through and when you win/lose (you can't just
quit), you will unlock Time Attack. Play Time Attack and you will
in turn unlock Score Attack.

ACHIEVEMENTS

This section is for the achievements on the Xbox 360 and tips on how
to gain them. About 500 points can be earned rather easily, 200 can be
earned with a little time, and 300 are just ridiculous and sadistic.

in will, of course, be credited accordingly.

You will get this normally. Keep in mind it won't unlock until you

I still haven't gotten this, but you have to unlock ALL the drama
pieces for all characters in every story mode scenario.

You can get this in a normal playthrough. It won't unlock until you
obtain Bardock as a playable character.

Unlike the Frieza and Cell characters, you'll get this after you
play through all nine battles of the Saiyan Saga.

[Birth of a Legend]
Play the Survival Trial and defeat all opponents - 100 points
This is sadistic. It starts out easy but the enemies get harder
and harder. Prepare for a long frustrating string of attempts.
[Bloodless Victory!]
Win a battle without taking any damage. - 20 points
This is easy. Go into Versus (1P vs. CPU) and choose any two
characters. Now set your character to highest attack power and
the opponent's health to lowest, and difficulty to very easy.
It's cake from here on.
[Cell Saga Allies]
Unlock all of the Cell Saga ally characters - 5 points
Unlocks after completing story mode.
[Cell Saga Drama]
Unlock all of the Drama Pieces from the Cell Saga - 20 points
Self explanatory. You just have to play the hell out of it until
you find all the drama piece triggers, then win the fights.
[Cell Z Award]
Clear all Cell Saga chapters with a Z rank on Normal difficulty - 35 points
Playing each battle once will let you know how to win the fights.
Just replay it on Normal and you'll probably easily get a Z rank.
Just in case, you want to get as many drama pieces as possible, use
a vanishing attack, super attack, and pursuit attack in each fight,
finish before 90 seconds, and finish with a ultimate finish KO. Pursuit
Attacks count for ultimate finish KO bonuses.
[Destructive Win!]
Win a battle while changing or destroying the background. - 5 points
Use an attack that destroys the battlefield to win. Most characters'
final attacks will do.

Clear all chapters of the Cell Saga - 15 points

Clear all of the Saga chapters with the difficulty set to Very Hard - 40 points
This is a pain. However, since you don't have to get a Z rank for this
achievement it shouldn't be too difficult, just time consuming.
[Frieza Saga Allies]

You get this after you unlock Bardock.

Unlock all of the Drama Pieces from the Frieza Saga - 20 points
Play every Frieza Saga battle until you find all the drama pieces. Keep

Thought Survival Mode was sadistic? This is the mother of all difficult
achievements. Enemies will attack faster and more aggressively and it'll
be a miracle to pull off a win, much less with a Z rank. Even for hardcore
players, this is a huge challenge.

Very easy. Playing each battle once will let you know how to win the fights.
Just replay it on Normal and you'll probably easily get a Z rank.
Just in case, you want to get as many drama pieces as possible, use
a vanishing attack, super attack, and pursuit attack in each fight,
finish before 90 seconds, and finish with a ultimate finish KO. Pursuit
Attacks count for ultimate finish KO bonuses.
[Z Warrior]
Clear all of the Saga chapters with the difficulty set to Z - 40 points
Not too bad, but each battle will test you to your limit. If you can eke
out a win for each battle earning this achievement is only a matter of time.
